Heartstart Courses - the course content
“Heartstart” is a British Heart Foundation initiative and Vale First Responders are delighted to be the local team approved and authorised to deliver this training
Conscious and unconscious patients
We’ll show you the process for how to ensure both your safety and that of the patient, what to check and how to do it, how to decide if the recovery position is required and the simple techniques for putting a patient into the recovery position - a practical session where you will get to try it for yourself.
Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation - “CPR”
You will learn how to decide if this is necessary, the simple technique of CPR and how it will benefit your patient. This is also a very practical session and alongside our qualified trainers and responders we will help you practice on our Resusi Annies. Course numbers will ensure there is a trained Responder for every two course delegates.
Choking and major bleeds
You never know when these skills will be needed and we will show you how to deal with someone who is choking and the two recommended actions to help a patient. If a cut is too severe to use a plaster, you will see how to deal with it and what actions you can take.
“AED” Automated External Defibrillators
With the number of these units increasing in railway stations, airports, shopping centres etc., our team will show you what they do, how they work, and give you an opportunity to have a go with one of our training units. They are simple and designed for the lay person to be able to deliver a potentially life saving electrical shock to the heart.
